Progressive Lenses Make Your Life Easier

Many people find as they get older, their regular glasses aren’t as effective as they used to be. Juggling reading glasses and regular glasses can get old, fast! That’s why Central Ohio Vision and Eyecare offers a variety of choices from different manufacturers – we want to make your life easier and clearer.

During your comprehensive eye exams we will determine if progressive lenses will help ease your focusing system and make your life easier at all ranges.  Anybody is able to wear a progressive lens – in fact, several of the staff at Central Ohio Vision and Eyecare has some form of add power in their glasses!  Kids as young as 4 have worn progressive lenses, due to issues with their ability to focus up close.  We have also fit customized progressive lenses for patients as old as 90, because these lenses are exceptional for making their whole world clearer!

In short, progressive lenses offer multiple prescriptions in one pair of glasses. They are ideal for individuals who need support doing close-up work (like reading a book), middle-distance work (like checking out a website), and long-distance work (such as driving).  Sometimes they can be a difficult to adjust to – lots of people have experienced the “fishbowl effect” when trying older generation progressive lenses on.  The type of progressive lenses we use at Central Ohio Vision and Eyecare are pretty amazing in comparison.

Why are our progressive lenses different?

Central Ohio Vision and Eyecare is committed to offering the most advanced eye health education and services to our patients.  There exist a great many types of progressive addition lenses that try and compensate for blur and distortion around the edges. We take all the elements that make good multifocal lenses amazing – no distortion, large amount of reading area to get into, the computer is perfect, your distance is crisp and gorgeous – and customizes it to how they physically rest on your face and where they are in relation to your eye. We typically have patients put these on for the first time and are pleasantly surprised with over how amazing it feels. There is no better lens available. This is only available for patients that are able to visit our office and take personalized custom measurements at this time.

Once you have selected your frame (or dropped off an old one!) we start working on getting those lenses finished. Licensed opticians use the incredibly precise measurements of tools like Optikam to lay your lenses out accurately – to tenth of a millimeter precision. We customize the bevel of the lens to ensure they fit your frame perfectly, but most importantly they cause the frame to match your head perfectly. We hide any thickness of your prescription lenses, add a beautiful high-luster polish to the edge and our state-of-the-art edger whittles them down to perfect finished prescription lenses. At this point, we assemble them by hand and inspect them for quality and accuracy. Deep clean and shine later – voila! You have handcrafted, perfect, amazing glasses.
