Comprehensive Care for Astigmatism

At Central Ohio Vision and Eyecare, we prioritize the wellness of our patients first and foremost. We strive to provide the most comprehensive eye care to all of our patients, and we do this through personalized care and patient education.

We are often asked about astigmatism, and this can be a very common occurrence that impacts our patients’ vision. So, what is astigmatism? Different than being nearsighted or farsighted, it’s actually a combination of the two. When an eye is impacted by astigmatism, it has a hard time making a clear image due to the shape of the eye.

There are multiple kinds of astigmatism: regular and irregular. Regular astigmatism can be corrected with glasses or contacts, and irregular astigmatism is often caused by disease or injury, so hard contact lenses are required for correction. Until recently, it was difficult to source contacts that helped with astigmatism and its effects. Now, there are contacts that work as well as glasses. Contacts that work for astigmatism come in soft lenses or hard lenses. Typically, we find that hard lenses work better, but both work well.

We Prioritize Patient Education

If you suspect you may be experiencing the effects of astigmatism, the best way to find out is to schedule an eye exam in our New Albany office! During the exam, our doctors will use a device called an auto refractor/topographer, which allows the computer to measure and visualize how it relates to the overall optical system.

Our team of optometrists, opticians and service specialists at Central Ohio Vision and Eyecare are standing by to provide personalized eyecare for you and your family. Contact us to learn more or make an appointment today!
